| **SIGNIFICANT AND IMMINENT CHANGES AND DISRUPTION**Due to changing priorities, the School of Informatics has decided that it can no longer host Tardis in its current form, and therefore the Tardis Project is moving to a new location outside of the university. The overall structure of Tardis is going to change, and there will be significant disruption to users.Already, SSH access to Tardis has been restricted to users of the university VPN. If you don't have access to this, you will still be able to access your data. We will follow up shortly with the details of how.With the exception of email, ALL TARDIS SERVICES WILL BE UNAVAILABLE from 21 February 2022 until they are rebuilt over the coming months. Backups will be taken the week before, so any changes made in the week beginning 14 February 2022 may not be reflected in the backups.The email service will continue running on a temporary and receive-only basis to allow users time to migrate to their new accounts. We will follow up shortly with details about this. Please start moving any external accounts from your existing Tardis email (username@tardis.ed.ac.uk) address now.We are in the process of rebuilding Tardis in a new location, and if you want to continue using Tardis, you will have to create a new account. The process for this is still to be decided, and we will communicate this by email.Tardis contact details: * We use both IRC and Discord, which are linked together. It was one of the first such projects of its kind, founded in 1988 by the School of Informatics (previously Department of Computer Science). Tardis provides services to members of the University, such as web hosting and mail access.One of the Tardis Project's main aims is to allow students at the university to be involved in running a large computing system, and learn the experience required to design, build and maintain such a system. |
