Prospective Date: 28th October 2007
Well Volunteered:
Things to achieve:
- Clean/service Piper's cooling system
- Not that service doesn't go amiss, but is there anything actually wrong with it? Seth
- At least two fans have stopped. --Pert 14:45, 30 September 2007 (BST)
- Remove old patch panel and associated Cat5
- Reconfigure Vislor as the backup server
- Tennant? Serial consoles are nice, but maybe it's a speed issue? Seth
- It's a RAM and speed issue. The rsyncs to Tennant were taking far too long. --Pert 14:45, 30 September 2007 (BST)
- Skip old/useless hardware from room/cupboard/bacam's office
- I noticed a bunch of old PC cases there I didn't recognise, has someone mistaken tardis for a skip? Seth
- Yeah, looks like it. --Pert 14:45, 30 September 2007 (BST)
- Move all users' home directories into one place and change the current directories into symlinks. This will mean that there is no need to run automount and '/home' can become a symlink to '/tardis/home'.
Prerequisites:
- Alert users to downtime
- IRC channel - Done --Pert 21:28, 29 September 2007 (BST)
- Mailing List: Allusers
- /etc/motd - Done by Aragorn
- Find/buy BIG disk for Vislor
- What's wrong with the one in tennant? Seth
- They are a bit fucked and new ones are very cheap. --Pert 14:53, 30 September 2007 (BST)
- I think we decided in the pub, that one of the 120GB disks from tennant will do the job in vislor so no need to find/buy a new disk. --Pert 16:23, 6 October 2007 (BST)
- Ask .inf.ed about disposal of hardware
